Cleveland High School Reviews

I went to a school in a different city for my first year of high school, and was very adament about getting into Cleveland for my Sophmore year. I found that (dispite the below review) I did connect with my teachers, and the learning experience was a positive one that made me interested in subjects I hadn't been interested in before. Based on test scores and diversity, Cleveland recieved an 'A' in government reviews, getting one of the only two 'A's given to Portland Public Schools.

cleveland is not diverse and is to shallow and money oreinted. also you dont get to have apersonal connection with the teachers, thats all they are is teachers, not people you want to talk too. Im upset i wasted my freshman year there and wish i had done what my gut told me to do

We enrolled our daughter at Cleveland with high hopes, especially because of its International Baccalaureate program. Perhaps our expectations were too high because of our prior experiences with excellent magnet schools in grades K-8, but our curious, enthusiastic learner was desperately unhappy at Cleveland, despite her 4.0 GPA, and we pulled her out a couple months into her sophomore year. The classes were just too uninspired to hold her interest, and crossing our fingers that they would get better when she could avail herself of the IB classes in junior year was not a sufficiently viable plan. If your child is creative and not into sports, she might complain. Listen to her.

My son graduated from Cleveland in 2004. He received a fantastic education (mostly IB classes)and participated in a sport every season for 4 years. He got into a great college with a very low acceptance rate - something that some parents think you need a private school to do. He really appreciated the diversity at CHS - not just ethnic, but socioeconomic and levels of ability.

Cleveland was such an awesome place to exerience high school. It was such a close community that was very friendly and welcoming. The staff is always willing to lend any extra help to get the students to live up to their full potential. The International Bacculaureate program is special to Cleveland because it is the only school on the east side with this challenging curriculm. The IB classes are excellerated, like AP classes, and provide students the ability to learn from classes that are at an international standard. It's an amazing opportunity for children who want to be challenged. The spots programs at Cleveland are definetly not the worst in the PIL. Our baseball team won PIL championship last year! The coaches a Cleveland are wha makes sports there great. The coaches are all so encourging. The students at Cleveland are also awesome. There are no cliques. I loved Cleveland!

I think that this school is really good for all kinds of children. They have great staff and a great educational experience. They have a doctors office right there at the school, so if any child is injured they get the help right away.
