Sherwood High School Reviews

I love Sherwood HS and I love the Sherwood Community. I agree with parts of the previous comments - the community is pretty 'white bread' and probably is lacking in divisity but you really can't blame anyone for that, can you? I think the school admin does a good job of trying to bring attention to all activities at the school (referring to non-sports related activities) but yes, football is prominant. Very possibly because you have a coaching staff who almost all live in Sherwood and are very plugged into the community. If you had teachers/advisor who brought the same type of enthusiasm and inviting nature to their 'club/activity' it would make a big difference. My stepson is a Sophomore (2007-08) and has had great experiences. Sherwood isn't immune to typical (although unfortunate) high school behavior like locker room talk, etc but overall I think it's a great place!

My Son transfered from out of state during his Sophmore year at the height of his all-time popularity. Our biggest concern with the move was him beign the outsider during critical social years. We thought the Football team would provide the friendship/unity/network that he experienced at former school. No such thing. What really helped him was the caring teachers and impressive selection of interesting classes! By mid-Junior year his social connections were mended with friendships found in challenging classes. Teachers were very caring in recognizing our concerns. Being new to the community I recognized long-established friendships, since many of these kids have known one another since grade school. Counselor assured me that the kids were accepting of new comers due to recent growth of the city. That too helped. Extreme white bread community. My son detected diversity intolerance in football locker talk.

good school, in a small town so not that many distractions and everyone know everyone and lots of places to get an after school job, and the students are very involed in football so it a very cozy inverment..

The school is lacking in cultural diversity. If your kids love sports they will love this school. If not they will feel isolated.

Sherwood has a very good community base - parents that are very involved - a few teachers that really care, many that don't - and are more focused on how much tax money they can get than how they can help your children. Very weak in special programs, strong parent support of sports activities.
